OUR KULEANA, OUR MISSION

"BRINGING TOGETHER DANCER, SPIRIT, AND CULTURE TO STRENGTHEN THE CONNECTION AND MEANING OF THE DANCE"

Our Hālau focuses on teaching not just the Polynesian dances, but to make a connection between dancer, spirit, and culture.  It is our purpose to bring out the essence of the true meaning behind the dances of Hawai'i and Tahiti.

We embrace everyone who has a love of the Hawaiian and Tahitian culture.  We hope to expand our knowledge and creative capacity in the years to come as a sign of our love of this culture and to leave a lasting legacy to our dancers.

OUR KUMU

Puahi has been teaching both Hula and Tahitian dance and culture in the Temecula Valley since 1995.  Beginning teaching lessons out of her home, the students began to grow and we moved to a studio in Temecula.

Puahi started dancing at ten years old and has continued to educate herself in dance and culture.  Puahi has established a relationship with her Kumu (Teacher), Kumu Hula Rich Pedrina of Hālau Hula ‘O Nāpunaheleonāpua to understand the culture and implement the style and traditions of traditional Hula; Kahiko.

These relationships have been instituted as a way for the dancers of Puahi's to experience the traditions and customs of the people from these islands and learn the true essence of why they dance.

It has been a privilege and honor to be able to represent two beautiful dance cultures of Hawai'i and Tahiti.

OUR OHANA

“Hula is the language of the heart,
therefore the heartbeat of the Hawaiian people”
- King David Kalākaua

Our 'Ohana has successfully thrived in Temecula Valley over the years because of our commitment to the knowledge and dedication to the preservation of both Hula and Tahitian dance.

Over the last several years, Puahi's dancers have continually perfected their dance skills and have grown in knowledge of dance and culture. Puahi’s students have been blessed to be a part of the King Kamehameha Hula Competition under the direction of Kumu Rich Pedrina of Halau Hula ‘O Nāpunaheleonāpua.  We have also been blessed to compete in several Tahitian Dance competitions throughout Southern California in both Group and Solo competitions.
